Poor Performance from Spain Says Del Bosque

Posted on 22. Jun, 2010 by admin.

Spain manager Vincente del Bosque has admitted that Spain’s performance in the 2-0 victory over Honduras was still some way short of the standard he is looking for. Spain lost their first match against Switzerland but bounced back last night to record their first win of the tournament.

Del Bosque feels that although the all important points were won, his side looked frail defensively and this will be something that will have to be addressed.

“We certainly paved the way for the third group match against Chile, but this hasn’t been a great match, we had glorious opportunities, many opportunities, we should have won the game by more goals so I’m not entirely satisfied,” he said.

“We were more vulnerable than we were against Switzerland. Honduras were quite adventurous, they came out and let us play.”

David Villa, who scored two but also missed a penalty, said: “Our defeat to Switzerland is water under the bridge now, there is no sense in looking back.

“We still need to beat Chile later, but there is a long way to go before we can even think about being world champions, both in terms of time and matches.”

Honduras manager Reinaldo Rueda was left to admit that his side had been outclassed by Spain, despite them giving their all.

Honduras played with heart but Spain did look a cut above and the scoreline could have been a lot larger than the 2-0 result.

“We had too much respect for them especially at the start of the game,” said the Colombian.
“The early goal tipped the balance of the game. There’s not much to explain, we were playing a much superior team.

“They surprised us with that goal, that individual move by David Villa very early on and I think we lacked conviction in our play to try to offset and overcome this rival.”

With Spain getting back to winning ways they are back amongst the hot favourites to win the tournament with bwin offering 19/4 on them adding a World title to their European one.

Paddy Power are offering odds of 9/2 and bodog are offering 4/1.

Rio Ferdinand to miss World Cup

England captain Rio Ferdinand will miss out on this summer’s South African World Cup after obtaining ligament damage to his left knee during their first training session after arrival.

Tottenham’s Michael Dawson will fly out to replace Ferdinand, who has been ruled out for six weeks.

The 31-year-old will be replaced as captain for the rest of the tournament by Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard.

“Everyone with the squad is very disappointed and sorry for Rio,” said England manager Fabio Capello.

“It was an accidental injury in training, but had nothing to do with the pitch.”

Ferdinand was injured in a “normal challenge” on striker Emile Heskey and was sent to the Fearncrest hospital in Rustenburg for a scan of the leg.

His replacement, Michael Dawson, has enjoyed a season on fine form at Spurs as they finished fourth in the Premier League, however, he is yet to win a cap at international level.

“It’s a crazy game and things can change in a split second,” said Dawson.

“One minute I’m trying to arrange my holiday, then I get a call asking if I was on holiday because Rio had pulled out of training.

“I said ‘no’ and then I was just waiting by the phone before getting a call saying I would be picked up in an hour.

“I’ll be going out there still having not yet won a senior cap, so where better place to get one if that was to happen.”

He also told Tottenham’s website: “For Rio to get injured, there would be no worse feeling for him as a player. To miss the biggest tournament in the world as the captain, I feel for him. ”

England start their World Cup campaign against the US on June 12th. William Hill and bet 365 give Fabio Capello’s side 4/9 odds of victory in their first game, while Victor Chandler set their odds at 2/5.

When it comes to football in Europe, it is important that people realize how seriously the sport is taken. Upon the time when an individual is a fan of the game, the individual is not only a fan of the game, but the individual is going to become a critic of the favorite team and even a bigger critic of their favorite player and their performance within every single game. These fans are hardest on their favorite players and therefore it can cause a loss of morale within the team that is playing on the field, especially in the case where a potential mistake is made and individuals are chanting at the player in a demeaning manner.

It is important for fans to realize that there is indeed an effect when the fans are chanting demeaning and insulting things to the player that is playing within the soccer field. Although the player might be a favorite and the team might be a favorite, a football fan can turn quickly and go against the player and everything that the player stands for. There is little to leniency when it comes to Europeans and their love of the game and the love for their players while they are playing good and the disdain that comes when the player has made a bad move.

There has been much talk lately about the fact that Europeans need to take measures to quell this behavior. Through the behavior which is demonstrated, it is not uncommon for players to shout insults toward the field of the players, even though the player that is having insults shouted at home is generally one of the favorite players.

While playing the game of soccer, it is important that one is equipped with the proper accessories that can be used while playing the game. One of the most important aspects of becoming a goalie is to make use of the gloves which can be used to protect the hand as well as being used to enable the goalie to further protect the net, saving goals as they are being shot upon the net by the other team. Through the use of goalie gloves, an individual is able to add another layer to the skin to reduce the harm that comes while playing the position of goalie.

How should one go about choosing goalie gloves? The first aspect that should be taken into account while choosing goalie gloves is to make common measurements of the hand. The first measurement that should be taken should be taken around the circumference of the hand. Through this number, the thumb should be excluded to ensure that the most accurate number has been chosen. Through measuring the fullest part of the hand, the individual is able to determine the size of goalie glove which is needed in order to remain in the game of football.

After this measurement has been taken record the number. To find the glove size which should be used while playing the game of football, add one to the number that has been discovered. Through the use of the glove size, you should round one number up, as in an inch to find an accurate glove size that will fit with the thumb being included.

It is important to measure both hands are there are some instances in which one hand is larger than the other. In this case, go with the larger sizes – or, if there is a significant difference, choose a different size for each hand.

The History of the Golden Goal Method to Break a Tie

Posted on 29. Jun, 2009 by admin.

Before the silver goal method was introduced into the game, which used a period of fifteen minutes to break a tie, the golden goal method is one of the historically significant methods that have been used to break the tie throughout the entire game of football. The golden goal methods a type of sudden death match in which the team that scored the first goal through the end of a tied game, through overtime like situation, was the declared winner of the game. The other team that was taking part in the game was declared the losing team and lost their place within the tournament or the match.

Why was the golden goal method stopped throughout the game of football? There are various reasons that this method of declaring a winner was changed. For one, the method put a lot of pressure on the referee to navigate the game and therefore the referee had been given a hard time by the players, the coaches and even the fans. The second reason that this was stopped is that players were beginning to become too aggressive while playing and losing the focus on the offense portion of the game. With the introduction of the silver goal method, players would again have to focus on the offense portion of the game.

The period of time that the teams were given through this type of sudden death match was a thirty minute period of time. This period of time was divided into two periods of fifteen minutes with a small half time in between. For the ten players on the team, this would equal one very long game. At the end of the additional thirty minutes, in the case that no goals have been scored, a shootout would occur through the game to determine a winner and finalize the score.
